MAT 2024 Exam Modes:

MAT is conducted in three modes as follows. All the three modes of exam have the same exam pattern, syllabus and question types. The difficulty level of the test may slightly vary from one administration to another. Scores are normalized to makeup the differences. The percentile is calculated on basis of all the test takers of the particular administration irrespective of the test mode.

  • MAT Paper Based Test (PBT): This mode of exam is conducted in specific test centres as a pen paper test. The test will be given as a question booklet and answers are to be marked in the OMR sheet provided.
  • MAT Computer Test (CBT): This mode of exam is conducted in specific test centres as a computer-based test. Questions will appear on the computer screen and you have to mark the answers directly on the system. You have options to navigate, skip, mark questions for review.
  • MAT Internet Based Test (IBT): IBT offers you the flexibility to take the exam from the comfort of your home from your own system (laptop or desktop) with an internet connection. You don’t have to go to the center. You have to download an application where the test opens at the given time and it is proctored remotely with the camera. The test is being saved as it progresses, so that you can resume the test in case of internet or power disruptions.

  • Section 1: Language Comprehension
    • This section tests your English language skills on reading, writing, grammar and Vocabulary.
    • About half of this section have Reading Comprehension (a passage followed by multiple choice questions) and the remaining have questions testing your Vocabulary and Grammar skills.
    • Three or four RC passages with the length of about 500-600 words.
    • Other topics tested are as follows: Parajumble, Paragraph Summary, Error spotting, Synonyms, Antonyms, Fill in the blanks testing the grammar rules, Idioms and phrases.
  • Section 2: Intelligence & Critical Reasoning
    • MAT Intelligence & Critical Reasoning section primarily tests your problem-solving skills and analytical, logical reasoning skills.
    • You can get questions from variety of topics such as: Directions, Blood relations, Statement conclusion, Assertion reason, Cause Effect, Classifications, Seating arrangement, Patterns, etc.
  • Section 3: Mathematical Skills
    • MAT Mathematical Skills sections assesses a variety of mathematical skills to gauge your quantitative aptitude. These skills are essential for success in many business programs to analyze data, solve problems, and make sound decisions.
    • Arithmetic topics such as Percentages, Ratios, Mixtures, Averages, Profit & Loss, SI & CI, Pipes & Cisterns, Time & Distance and Numbers have majorly tested.
    • Mensuration and Geometry topics also have equal weightage of questions.
    • A few other topics tested as Algebra and Trigonometry.
  • Section 4: Data Analysis & Data Sufficiency
    • MAT Data Analysis section tests your ability to interpret data from the given chart or graph, analyze the data and perform calculations.
    • Data formats can be: Table, Bar graph, Pie chart, Line graph, Mixed figures, Caselets.
    • There can be some questions (about 5 questions) where you will be asked to compare the two quantities and choose an answer based on the comparison.
    • Data Sufficiency questions in MAT tests your ability to evaluate the given information and make logical decisions.
  • Section 5: Economic & Business Environment
    • This section score is not considered for the composite score.
    • Economics & Business – India and the World related questions are tested.

 

MAT 2024 Scoring System:

The MAT follows a scaled scoring system. Raw scores in each section are converted to a scaled score ranging from 0 to 100. The Composite score is an overall scaled score based on the first four sections of MAT. This is reported on a scale of 199 to 801.

On the MAT score report, the following scores are published:

  • Sections 1 to 5, respective scaled score ranges from 0 to 100 and percentile are mentioned separately for each section.
  • Composite Score comprising the first 4 sections ranges from 199 to 801 and the percentile.
